As a rule of thumb, current releases of any subject are a sure bet, and can often get you the highest price when selling. This is especially true with Fiction in general. Conversely, as they get older, they can become more common and less popular. However, there are many authors and subjects where this is not true, and specifically, Literature, Science Fiction, Canadiana, and Westerns, for example, where most eras are equally popular. If you have factual Non-Fiction books, many of them last longer in popularity as they get older than their Fiction counterparts, especially subjects such as Art, Philosophy, New Age, Martial Arts, Religion, and more. There are many additional types, too, that we like to buy, such as Role Playing Books, Occult, Military, History, Science, Children's, Photography, current Computer Manuals and current Technical books, just to name a few. Although each book is different when trying to determine its individual value, there are some types that as a rule you probably might be best to donate to a worthy cause (such as GoodWill, Salvation Army, Value Village etc.) Some of these are: old Harlequins, Reader's Digest Condensed Books, old Romance Novels (more than 5 years old), rough condition books, and much of the older general fiction more than 5 years old (but again, there are exceptions) The reality is, that every book is different, and seeing is the only real way to confirm whether or not you will get money for your books.
