DVD

We are happy to say that our DVD section has grown rapidly over the past few years and we have acquired many titles for our collection. Now that VHS has virtually disappeared, we can devote a number of display racks to a wide variety of DVD's ranging from New Releases, to Music, Family, Classics, and more. Our main selection is alphabetized from A - Z, so it's easy to find whether we have a title or not.

We now stock a growing number of Blu-Ray DVD's and will have greater numbers of them in the future, as they continue to be released in that format.

A few tips to remember when selling DVD's are that we only purchase them in mint shape. We also cannot take a title if we have an existing title (or two, or three!) on our shelves.

We pay up to 20% of the new price, with the best titles being those that are the most recent (box-set series or other). And don't forget your identification (a driver's license or health card is ideal) as we will need to record it when you sell DVD's to us.

In the past year, we have noticed a growing popularity with On-Demand and Netflix for receiving movies directly to your home. Although this format carries many advantages, keep in mind that buying and owning an actual DVD maintains some advantages of their own. Netflix, for instance, does not carry newer releases, whereas we often get in ones that have recently been releases on DVD.

Owning actual copies also guarantees that you can watch it again and again anytime; you don't have to worry about it being taken out of circulation if you wish to select it to watch. It will always be on your shelf. Unless of course your little brother and his friends use them as Frisbees. We can't help you there!

And don't forget the best features of owning a new or used DVD or Blu-Ray, over On Demand movies: all the extra features and commentaries, that you can enjoy and peruse on your multi-discs at your leisure. Those are some of my favourite times spent watching Deleted Scenes, Bloopers, Commentaries by the Director or Actors, Making of the movie etc. You can't get any of that with On Demand movies!

Burning DVD's have also shown that they don't last very long, and within a year or two they cease to function properly. (No really, it didn't happen to us! We would never do something illegal like that! A "friend" we know had this happen to them...)

Also, the growing market of Blu-Rays present some real advantages over On-Demand HD movies. I don't care what specs you throw at me, watching a Blu-Ray on a PS3 machine or Blu-Ray player is much better quality and crisper picture than the so-called HD movies on cable. It's not even close!
